Miguel Rodrigues studied photography and visual arts in Lisbon and London (Ar.Co Visual Arts and Communication Centre Lisbon, Aula do Risco School of Advanced Artistic Study Lisbon and London College of Communication University of the Arts London).
He has also completed many short training programmes and secondments focused on museum and archive photography, digitisation and digital preservation: British Library Sound Archive Internship, TAPE Training in Audiovisual Preservation for Europe Amsterdam (EU programme), several JISC Digital Media UK one-day courses, etc.
He worked at the University of London Computer Centre as an Imaging Specialist in the Digital Preservation group, during which time he co-developed and co-managed the ULCC Digitisation Service, and collaborated with such institutions as the British Telecom Archives, Imperial College London, King's University of London and the William Morris Society, amongst several others.
After ULCC, Miguel worked at Senate House Library University of London and University College London, handling the imaging on important projects as the Institute of English Studies' "Museum of Writing", the digitisation of Anna Birkbeck's personal album or the "Bentham Papers" database.
He has also worked extensively as a freelance photographer, instructor, teacher and consultant, in Portugal and the UK, photographing collections and exhibitions, teaching photography, training archivists and archives assistants in digitisation, and advising institutions and private collectors.
Miguel combines the technical expertise of someone who has worked through numerous imaging challenges, employing many different types of equipment on widely different projects, with the creative flair of a lens-based artist and a broad understanding of the history of photography.
He has always tried to deepen and expand his knowledge both as a photographer and to other adjacent areas, such as the digitisation of analogue sound or the conservation of photographs.
Miguel has also worked as a landscape and architectural photographer, producer, translator and project manager.
